Biochar Community Workshop
Saturday 15 July, 12.00pm – 4.00pm
Free
Puaka Matariki is a time for preparing the soil ready for the next planting and growing season. We would like to share our soil preparations for winter-over with the community.
The workshop facilitator will be Dennis Enright. Dennis is Managing Director of NZ Biochar Ltd which promotes organic and sustainable growing practices, and the role that biochar can play in such systems. He has over 40 years of experience in agriculture and horticulture that ranges from researcher to commercial producer.
The community are invited to bring along their own prunings to turn into biochar (must be very dry, been off tree for 2 years and be of a diameter less than two inches). Participants will be involved hands on in the workshop so should dress appropriately (covered shoes are a must). At the end you will get to take away a bucket of biochar for your garden. BYO sausages for a charBQ.
We welcome people of all gardening abilities.
North East Valley Community Garden is behind North East Valley Normal School – Park on Longworth Street and walk up to the garden.
